Jernbanen passere i dag over Nasrid Tårnet.
The Nasrid Tower
Santa Fe de Mondújar have from the early days been located at a strategic crossroad. There will always be a busy traffic of people and goods when roads cross. The old Arabic tower from the Nasrid Dynasty (1230-1492) has been rebuild. They don't know the exact height of the tower, but expect it would have been 2 or 3 stories high. The door is located at the first floor, to make a defence easier in case of attack or riot. These watch towers were a normal sight in Andalucia. They were used as small military bases from where communication with other parts of the region easily could be done with smoke or fire signals. Soldiers were living on the site. As this tower is located pretty low in the terrain, is suspected to have been used to collect taxes from people passing by.
Even though it's a quiet village today, the roads still cross here, but now the tower is now under the railroad bridge.
